ANgela Marsahall | Artist Statement - Angela Marsahll

I have a Degree in Fine Arts with a major in Painting. I currently hold the position of Head of Visual Art and Head of the Arts Faculty at a Secondary School in Christchurch, New Zealand.

In my early life I was brought up in Southland where I was fortunate to spend a great deal of time surrounded by the southern lakes and mountains. The cloud formations in this region are dynamic and I try to show their distinct structures through light and soft shifting edges. Storms and rain over the mountains create dark but comforting moments in which to enjoy our expansive and majestic landscape.

The style I work in emphasises mood and atmosphere, while unifying the colour of the local landscape. I like to depict times of changing light which lends itself to the light of dusk or dawn. I hope that my interpretation of the land evokes an emotional experience for the viewer. A sense of stillness captured at that moment in time.
